Eclipse Aerospace on 18 March celebrated power-on for its first Eclipse 550 very light jet.

Chief executive Mason Holland says he plans to “reintroduce production and delivery of the Eclipse 550 jet this year”.

Holland and a group of investors revived production of the twinjet after buying the assets of bankrupt Eclipse Aviation which failed in 2009 after delivering 260 of its Eclipse 500 aircraft on which the new jet is based.

The revamped Eclipse, powered by 900hp-class (670kW) Pratt & Whitney Canada PW610F turbofans, features improved avionics, auto-throttles and synthetic vision.
