UK regional carrier Flybe is to order up to 140 Embraer regional jet aircraft, of which 35 will initially be firm.
Flybe says the order includes 65 options and purchase rights for another 40 jets.
The airline identifies the 88-seat Embraer 175 as the baseline aircraft for the order.
It values the firm part at $1.3 billion, the options at $2.3 billion and the rights at $1.4 billion, giving an overall potential value of $5 billion.
