Hobart Aircraft Ground Power has introduced a 90kVA ground-power unit (GPU), driven by a Deutz water-cooled engine. The GPU was launched at the InterAirport '96 show, held in Atlanta, Georgia, in October.
The GPU combines an electrically governed Deutz engine with a generator designed by Troy, Ohio-based Hobart. The unit has a low profile, with "fifth-wheel" steering for ramp manoeuvrability, durable bumpers to protect the GPU from damage, and high-capacity cable trays for easy access. The Deutz engine meets current and future emissions standards, Hobart says, and operates at 85-87dBA.
Also at InterAirport, Germany's MaK System displayed air-start units driven by a gas-turbine manufactured by Auxiliary Power International (APIC), and capable of starting high-thrust engines such as the General Electric GE90, Pratt & Whitney PW4000 and Rolls-Royce Trent.
The MSU 200/400 air-start units produced by Keil-based MaK use the power section from APIC's APS 2000 auxiliary power-unit.
