A proposal to ship several dozen Klimov RD-93 engines a year to power Chengdu J-10 fighters is being discussed by Russia's state arms sales company Rosvooruzhenie and Chinese authorities. The RD-93 is a derivative of the RD-33 turbofan powering RSKMiG-29s. The Vremya MN newspaper quotes an anonymous Rosvooruzhenie source as saying that the Chinese insist on absolute secrecy. Klimov, however, displayed a picture showing the RD-93 engine and J-10 at the Engines-2000 exhibition in Moscow, last week, although it declines to give any details.
