Los Angeles appears to be on the short list of potential cities for deployment of British Airways' Airbus A380s.

Flightglobal's ACAS database shows the carrier has 12 of the jumbo jets on order, and is scheduled to take delivery of its first aircraft in 2013.

Speaking to ATI, BA's regional director for the Western US and Western Canada Kevin Burns states Los Angeles "could be a market where you see one of those aircraft. It makes a lot of sense".

In the near term BA is planning a return to San Diego, California on 1 June when it launches flights from its London Heathrow hub. Burns says the new joint venture among Oneworld members American, BA and Iberia is a driving factor in the new service, highlighting American's brand strength in Southern California. BA is "fairly pleased" with the bookings for the daily roundtrip flight operated with a Boeing 777-200 featuring 275 seats in a three-class configuration.

Overall Burns states that demand on BA's routes to North America remains strong, and the carrier is seeing improvement year-over-year in yields.

BA is scheduled to take the first of 24 Boeing 787s it has on order in 2012, and Burns says the carrier is "waiting on Boeing" for a more definitive delivery date.

Earlier this week Polish carrier LOT announced it was taking delivery of its first 787 in April 2012, while Air Canada said Boeing has told the carrier its first aircraft will be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2013.
