Matsushita Avionics Systems and Rockwell Collins have added digital versatile disk (DVD) systems to their line-ups.
Matsushita is developing its in-seat DVD as a standalone system for narrowbody aircraft or for widebodies incorporated into the System 3000 hardware. First deliveries will be in the fourth quarter of next year. The DVD player is being targeted at first class cabins, says Chris Lundquist, Matsushita director of product planning.
Rockwell Collins has entered the DVD market through an exclusive sales and marketing deal with UK company IEC International. Under the deal, IEC's in-seat DVD player is incorporated in Rockwell's P@ves system for single aisle aircraft. Launch customer is Qatar Airways.
