European MD Helicopters (MDHI) distributors are gearing up for a sales drive with renewed confidence that the troubled manufacturer will be able to maintain deliveries following its re-financing.

UK and Ireland distributor Eastern Atlantic Helicopters says, in common with other dealers in Europe, selling the five-model range became increasingly difficult due to erratic delivery schedules. The Mesa, Arizona-based manufacturer was rescued by New York financier Patriarch Partners, which took a controlling interest from Netherlands-based RDM late last month (Flight International 9-15 August).

Eastern Atlantic has three eight-place VIP versions of the MD Explorer twin on order, but has been waiting for around 24 months for delivery, says Simon Oliphant-Hope, managing director. “What’s the point in selling something you can’t get hold of?” asks Oliphant-Hope. Delivery of the helicopters is now scheduled for mid-2006.
