A joint venture between Pratt & Whitney, Singapore Technologies Aerospace and SIA Engineering (SIAEC) will extend P&W's hi-tech engine parts repair capability in the region.
The JV will perform PW4000 turbine airfoil repairs, utilising two technologies that are new to Singapore - electron beam physical vapour deposition (EB-PVD) coating and turbotip plating technology for high pressure turbine blade repairs.
EB-PVD is one of the advanced thermal barrier coating technologies used in PW4000, JT9D, CF6, CFM56 and other large commercial aero-engines. Turbotip is a plating technology for applying cubic boron nitride (CBN) to turbine blade tips.
