Yemenia has firmed up and bolstered its commitment to the Airbus A350 XWB after signing for ten A350-800s during the Dubai air show.

The Yemen national carrier initially committed to taking six firm and four options on the original A350-800 in March 2006. The carrier had already indicated it would stick with the aircraft after its subsequent redesign and ATI last month reported the carrier would firm an order for up to ten of the type during the Dubai air show.

Following the signing of the firm contract last night, Yemenia chairman Abdulkalek Al-Kadi says: “We are delighted to have secured the future of our long-range fleet with the Airbus A350. We are looking forward to introducing the aircraft on our intercontinental routes to and from Yemen.”

Deliveries of the aircraft – for which Rolls-Royce’s Trent XWB engine is the only powerplant currently available - are expected to begin in 2015. The carrier currently operates four A310s and two A330-200s in its long-haul fleet.

The carrier will operate its A350-800s in a two-class configuration, seating 18 passengers in its premium cabin and 265 in economy.
