-United Airlines will cease its daily services between Honolulu and Osaka in October as a result of the Asian economic downturn and losses on the route.

-Cathay Pacific Airways has been cleared to begin services between Hong Kong and San Francisco in December, with Airbus A340-300s.

-British Airways has been cleared to begin daily services between London Gatwick and Denver using a 267-seat Boeing 777-200.

-The US Department of Transport has allocated 22 slots at Tokyo Narita to four US airlines, including carriers American, Delta and UPS Airlines (two each) and Polar Air Cargo. The latter approval enables Polar to begin services to Narita.

-Trans World Airlines will launch services from New York Kennedy to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, and to St. Martin/St Maarten in the Netherlands Antilles, in December, using Boeing 757s.

-Qantas has linked with LanChile in a code- share alliance which will set the stage for a new Qantas route to South America via Auckland and Tahiti. Qantas is also negotiating a similar deal with Aerolineas Argentinas, which flies to Auckland three times weekly.

-Reno Airlines is adding new services between San Jose and Burbank, California, and between John Wayne Orange County and Seattle.

-TAP Air Portugal and Transbrasil have signed a codeshare agreement, linking TAP's 50 destinations with 28 Transbrasil destinations, including 20 in Brazil itself, while TAP plans to increase frequencies to Sao Paulo.

-Emirates Airlines has started to offer a fourth weekly flight between Dubai and Dar-es-Salaam, using an Airbus A310 which will call at Nairobi on the outbound leg, returning direct to Dubai.

-British Midland has extended its code-sharing agreement with Virgin Atlantic to cover flights from London Heathrow to Warsaw in Poland. ++ ProAir will launch twice weekly services between Detroit City and Las Vegas in December.
