Pratt & Whitney Canada has selected Austrian composites specialist FACC to supply fan cases for PW800 engines.

FACC says the deal represents “an entry into a new product and market segment”.

Chief executive Robert Machtlinger says the Ried-based company is “expanding its position further thanks to its technological leadership”. FACC already supplies other components to P&WC, and will manufacture the fan cases in a hybrid metal-composite construction.

Gulfstream has selected the PW800 to power its G500 and G600 business jets.

FACC was previously chosen to supply fan cowls for Rolls-Royce 7000 engines, the sole powerplant available for the in-development Airbus A330neo.

Chinese aerospace group AVIC has a majority shareholding in FACC.
