France says it urgently needs to modernise its three ex-USAF Boeing KC-135R tankers to comply with the global air traffic management system. It wants to equip the aircraft with improved navigation and communications, plus infrared cameras for day and night tanking operations. The aircraft are unable to fly outside French airspace.
