US emergency medical services (EMS) provider Air Methods has ordered 20 Bell 407GX helicopters to support "future growth opportunities". The single-engined aircraft will be dedicated to air medical transport for critically ill and injured patients throughout the USA.
"Air Methods' order is part of our commitment to having the most modern fleet in the helicopter EMS industry," says Air Methods Aviation Services senior vice-president Archie Gray. "The Bell 407 airframe strikes a good balance between speed, performance and operating costs."
Air Methods began operations in Englewood, Colorado more than 32 years ago with a single Bell 206. Today, the company serves 48 states with a fleet of about 400 rotary and fixed-wing aircraft. On 31 December, Air Method completed its acquisition of Las Vegas-based aerial services operator Sundance Helicopters.
