American Airlines received approval to enter into a previously negotiated sale-leaseback transaction with AerCap for a Boeing 737-800 from the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York yesterday.

The airline took delivery of the aircraft from the manufacturer on or around 22 May and immediately entered into a sale-leaseback with the lessor, according to a court filing. The aircraft is registration number N892NN and manufacturer's serial number 31145.

Wells Fargo is the trust owner of the aircraft that is owned by AerCap subsidiary SkyFunding.

AerCap is funding each 737-800 individually from a sale-leaseback deal for 35 of the type while American operates under chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The companies agreed to the transaction in July 2011.

American filed for bankruptcy protection in November 2011.
