It may be the smallest of Embraer's Paris air show debutantes, but the airframer believes the super-light Legacy 450 can still hold its own against its bigger commercial and military siblings.

"It's getting a lot of attention at the show," says Michael Amalfitano, chief executive of Embraer Executive Jets.

Although dwarfed by the E195-E2 jet and KC-390 tanker/transport parked next to it on the static display, Amalfitano can still see similarities between the three, particularly in the Legacy 450's fly-by-wire (FBW) controls.

"It is the first aircraft in the mid-light space to have fly-by-wire, digital flight controls. We have experience with it in both the commercial and military sectors and that has enabled us to perfect the technology over the past decade."

Combined with class-leading range and speed, the FBW controls help the Legacy 450 offer a "unique value proposition in the space".

Embraer has now delivered a combined 60 aircraft across the Legacy 450 and 500 programmes, with two production lines in São José dos Campos, Brazil and Melbourne, Florida now up and running.

The Legacy 450 entered service in 2016, around a year later than its midsize sibling.
