German-Canadian maintenance joint venture Lufthansa Bombardier Aviation Services (LBAS)has won US Federal Aviation Administration certification. The company is now an approved maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services provider for Learjet and Canadair Challenger aircraft which belong to customers based in North America and Europe.
LBAS is a joint venture between Lufthansa Technik and Bombardier Business Aircraft founded last November, and is based at Berlin Schönefeld Airport. Some DM10 million ($5.5 million) has so far been invested in the centre, which is the first Bombardier centre to offer MRO services for these aircraft outside North America.
The Lufthansa Group operates 30 Canadair Regional Jets, and Lufthansa Aircraft Engine Repair and Overhaul (Lufthansa AERO) has been founded as a subsidiary of Lufthansa Technik to service the General Electric CF34-3B1 turbofan engines.
