American Airlines Group subsidiary PSA Airlines took delivery of its first Bombardier CRJ900 at Montreal Mirabel International airport on 5 June.

The aircraft, registered N547NN (MSN 15317), departed Montreal at 16:32 local time and arrived at PSA’s Dayton International airport headquarters at 18:09 local time, according to



The aircraft is also Bombardier's first enhanced CRJ900, which burns 5.5% less fuel than first generation CRJ900s through weight reductions and new nozzles, said Kevin Smith, Bombardier vice-president of sales, in May.

PSA will take delivery of 14 more CRJ900s in 2014 and the remaining 15 of American’s firm order for 30 in 2015, Flightglobal’s Ascend Online database shows.

The aircraft are configured with 76 seats, including 12 in first class and 64 in economy, and will be equipped with Gogo inflight wi-fi.

Fort Worth, Texas-based American has options for another 40 of the type.

Financing for the aircraft has yet to be determined. Peter Warlick, vice-president of fleet planning at American, told Flightglobal in December 2013 that it planned to consider an offer for export credit financing from Export Development Canada for the CRJ900s. No further details have been disclosed.

When and where the CRJ900 will enter service has yet to be disclosed.

American’s US Airways Express operation already includes CRJ900s. The aircraft operate primarily from its hubs at Charlotte-Douglas International and Phoenix Sky Harbor International airports, and there are plans to expand that service to Los Angeles International airport later in 2014.

American also has a firm order for 60 Embraer 175 aircraft, which it plans to announce an operator for soon. Deliveries begin in the first quarter of 2015.

Mesa Airlines, SkyWest Airlines and Trans States Airlines have all expressed interest in flying some or all of the E175 aircraft.
