LATAM Airlines Group has ordered 24 Embraer 195-E2s, plus 50 options, and will deploy the jets from 2026 to strengthen domestic and regional operations across its network.

The Chile-based carrier group says its LATAM Airlines Brazil arm will initially operate the aircraft, but sees potential for any of its affiliated carriers to eventually fly the Pratt & Whitney PW1900G-powered type.

“This initiative underscores LATAM Group’s ongoing investment in strengthening its domestic and regional operations, building on steady and profitable growth achieved over the past four years,” it says.

“The new fleet will enhance flexibility across LATAM Group’s hubs, enabling the group to serve additional destinations and expand travel options for customer.”

LATAM intends to start receiving E195-E2s in the second half of next year

Embraer chief executive Francisco Gomes Neto says the E195-E2s will enable “LATAM affiliates to connect more destinations with the right capacity”.

LATAM said in July it was considering acquiring a new aircraft type to serve regional markets and was evaluating both the Embraer and Airbus A220.

At the end of June, LATAM’s fleet comprised 359 aircraft: 281 A320-family jets, three A330s, 28 Boeing 767s, 10 777s and 37 787s, according to its financial filings.

The deal also marks another win for Embraer and the largest member of its second-generation E-Jet family, following the 10 September commitment by US start-up discounter Avelo Airlines for 50 E195-E2s, plus 50 options.

Embraer ended June with 437 E-Jets in its backlog, including 208 first-generation E175s, 39 E190-E2s and 190 E195-E2s.
