Elbit Systems has been awarded a follow-on contract worth roughly $20 million to continue its provision of Israeli pilot training services using Grob G120 "Snunit" aircraft.

"Under the new contract, Elbit Systems will operate the trainers for an additional period of 10 years, starting in 2012," the company says.

Delivered since 2002, the Snunit service was contracted as the Israeli air force's first private finance initiative project.

The service buys hours on a fleet of 27 Elbit-owned G120A1s under the arrangement, with the company responsible for the operation and maintenance of the aircraft from the air force's flight academy at Hatzerim air base.

"The Israeli air force's decision to renew the contract attests to its high level of satisfaction with the service, availability, usability and security achieved throughout the programme to date," says Yoram Shmuely, co-general manager of Elbit's aerospace division.
