Norwegian is "highly likely" to use financing from the US Export-Import (Ex-Im) Bank for its three owned Boeing 787-8s, says chief executive Bjorn Kjos.
The Oslo-based carrier has a request for proposals (RFP) out for financing for its first owned 787, which is due in November, but the airline prefers export credit for the aircraft, he says at a delivery ceremony for Norwegian's first 787 in Seattle today.
Norwegian has orders for eight 787s with five leased from International Lease Finance (ILFC) and three owned.
The five leased 787s are on 12 year lease terms, says Kjos.
"Obviously you have lower cost if you own the aircraft," he says. "But its good to have a mix."
Norwegian has received financing from US Ex-Im for Boeing 737-800s previously.
