Australian Regional Express Airlines (Rex) has signed a lease deal with Saab Aircraft Leasing for 13 Saab 340Bs as part of its fleet modernisation programme. The airline, which operates 21 340s, has taken delivery of the first three aircraft and the remaining 10 will be introduced over the next six months. The Saab 340Bs, previously operated by US carriers, replace a similar number of older 340s in the Rex fleet, providing a common technical configuration. Rex began operations in August 2002 following the amalgamation of Kendell Airlines and Hazelton Airlines.
