Budapest airport has expanded its route offering through higher Alitalia frequencies and a new Wizz Air route to Malta.

Italy's flag carrier will initially increase the frequency of its connection to Rome Fiumicino airport to 10 flights a week on 1 May.

This will subsequently rise to a 12 times weekly service between 1 June and 30 September.

Separately, Wizz Air is due to launch twice weekly flights from Budapest to Malta on 17 May.

According to Innovata schedules, Alitalia competes with Wizz Air on the Rome Fiumicino-Budapest route, while Wizz Air is the sole operator on the Budapest-Malta route.
