Leonardo is to provide continued in-service support for the Kuwait air force’s still-growing fleet of Eurofighter Typhoons, with the Gulf state having exercised a follow-on option.
“Under the new service contract, integrated logistics support and training will be supplied locally by Leonardo Aviation Services at Salem Al Sabah base until December 2029,” the company announced on 25 September.
Kuwait signed an order for 28 Typhoons in 2016, with deliveries having commenced in late 2021: Leonardo is responsible for the final assembly of its jets.

“Most of the aircraft on order have been delivered and are in service,” the airframer says, without providing an exact number. However, data from aviation analytics company Cirium indicates that the nation has so far received 20 of its jets.
The Eurofighter consortium partner says its Kuwait-based Leonardo Aviation Services entity provides “engineering support, maintenance, repair, overhaul and upgrade, supply chain management and training solutions for both air and ground crew for the Typhoon”.
The extended support arrangement will ensure that the Kuwait air force can “maximise the high level of capability delivered by the Eurofighter Typhoons to meet national air defence requirements”, it adds.
