Helicopter manufacturer Sikorsky believes its international sales efforts have become stronger since it was bought in 2015 by Lockheed Martin from former parent United Technologies.
Sam Mehta, president of the the airframer's Defence Systems & Services division, says the integration is still underway, but synergies are already becoming apparent.
“We’ve benefited from Lockheed’s knowledge in certain markets,” he says. “There are customers that both companies had a very strong relationship with, such as the US, but beyond this we’ve made some connections with international customers.”
There are several markets where the two companies have overlap, but there also are a number where Lockheed and Sikorsky can help each other develop new opportunities.
Sikorsky continues to see strong regional interest in its MH-60R anti-submarine/anti-surface warfare multi-mission helicopter, a product in which Lockheed Martin has had a long involvement through the provision of mission equipment.
“Several countries have expressed interest in that product line,” he says.
Apart from the type’s ability to perform multiple roles, the MH-60R enjoys commonality with the US Navy's fleet, which facilitates spares and support.
