HK Express has appointed Li Dianchun as its president, effective immediately.

Prior to the appointment, Li was chief commercial officer of sister company Hong Kong Airlines.

In a statement, the low-cost carrier says Li will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the airline and will work closely with executive chairman Zhong Guosong to develop strategies and policies for the business.

It adds that his priorities include strengthening communication between staff and management, and to enhance the management efficiency and operational stability of the airline.

Li appointment's come after the sudden departures of chief executive Andrew Cowen and president Jimmy Ma early last month, following flight cancellations during the Golden Week, a popular period for travel among Chinese citizens. Hong Kong's civil aviation department had alleged that the airline failed to proactively update the authority and the public about the pending flight cancellations.

The airline then appointed Zhong as acting chief executive.
