Middle Eastern carrier Gulf Air is opening services to three more regional destinations including the holy city of Medina in Saudi Arabia.

The carrier will also operate to Alexandria in Egypt and Aleppo in Syria, turning the routes from seasonal to year-round destinations from this month.

Gulf Air has not previously served Medina but chief executive Samer Majali says there has "always been strong demand for a direct service" to the city.

Medina will be served four-times weekly with Embraer regional jets.
