THE US NAVY IS BASING five Grumman EA-6B Prowlers ashore at Aviano AB in Italy, to counter the continuing Serb surface-to-air missile threat to NATO's Operation Deny Flight. US Air Force Rockwell EF-111A Raven jammers were deployed to Aviano in November 1994, but have since been re-deployed. The Prowlers, from the VAQ-130 squadron, were flown off the USS Eisenhower when the carrier left the Adriatic. Shore-detachment commander Lt. Cdr. Fred Drummond says that, in spite of operating daily missions over Bosnia. The Prowler crews have seen "no indication of Russian SA-10 Grumble" missiles which the Serbs were alleged to have acquired in 1994.
