Western Australian regional carrier Skywest has acquired an option from Avation Plc to lease an Airbus A320.

This will be on an operating lease for four years, substantially on the same terms the airline's first leased A320/ It is anticipated to be available to enter service around August, it added.

Skywest has also signed a letter of intent to purchase an additional Fokker 100 jet aircraft directly.

"Should Skywest decide, in its sole discretion, to complete the acquisition, the aircraft would also be available in the fleet around August," said the airline.

In addition, the carrier said it is planning to launch a weekly service from Geraldton to Denpasar, Bali. It is also planning to launch service from Geraldton through to the Pilbara and Geraldton to the East Coast of Australia to Melbourne from July 2011.
