InterSky is set to be the first Austrian carrier to operate ATR turboprops after signing formally for a pair of 72-600s.

Under the purchase contract the first 70-seat aircraft will arrive in December while the second will be introduced in March 2013.

ATR values the aircraft at $47 million.

Investor group Intro owns 49% of InterSky. Intro managing director Hans Rudolf Wohrl says the type is "definitely the optimal solution" for the carrier's regional needs.

ATR aircraft have a "proven efficiency and value", he adds.

InterSky managing director Peter Oncken says the ATR "fits perfectly" with its plans to offer high-quality service while keeping operating costs low.
