It could be well into next decade before deliveries of business jets recover to their 2008 peak, warns Embraer, in a gloomy prognosis of the industry's prospects.

The Brazilian manufacturer stressed its outlook was for the market as a whole rather than its own performance. Although a more optimistic version sees 2008 delivery levels of 1,200 jets being reached by 2016, Claudio Camelier, vice-president of marketing for Embraer Executive Jets, said worries about the US and European economies could see its worse-case scenario being realised, where 2021 numbers are still slightly below the peak.

However, Embraer did point to some optimistic signs, including a year-on-year rise in US corporate profits and growing demand in emerging markets such as China, Latin America and Southeast Asia.
