Sydney-based remote control systems specialists Silvertone Electronics has built a small fleet of its Red Flamingo unmanned air vehicle systems to support participation in the Australian outback rescue challenge UAV demonstration being held 24-27 September.

Manufacture of the UAVs was completed by late August with multiple test flights being conducted in recent weeks. These included trial demonstrations of the outback rescue challenge scenario of airborne delivery of a drink bottle to a stranded survivor in the Australian desert.

The Australian Research Centre for Aerospace Automation ran outback rescue challenge has attracted 43 teams from six different countries. Competitive demonstrations are to be conducted at Kingaroy, a regional town the south of the state of Queensland.
