Middle Eastern carrier Etihad Airways is opening a new transatlantic destination next year with services to the US city of Charlotte.

The Abu Dhabi-based carrier will operate four-times weekly to the North Carolina city from 4 May 2026.

Etihad says it will deploy Boeing 787s on the route.

Charlotte will bring the number of US destinations served by the carrier to six.

Etihad’s Charlotte route will complement US services to New York, Chicago, Washington, Boston, and Atlanta.

Chief executive Antonoaldo Neves says the route is a “strategic addition” to the US network, adding that it accesses a “dynamic and fast-growing” region.

The disclosure coincides with US president Donald Trump’s visit to the United Arab Emirates.

Etihad Airways has also confirmed an order for 28 Boeing 787 and 777X twinjets from 2028.

According to Boeing’s official order and delivery figures, Etihad already has outstanding orders for 28 787s and 25 777Xs.
