Indian budget carrier IndiGo has finalised a commitment for 30 Airbus A350-900s, firming the tentative agreement unveiled in June.
The decision doubles the number of A350s for the carrier to 60.
Airbus says the enhanced order is part of a “strategic shift” for the Indian carrier – already a strong customer for the airframer – as it branches into long-haul operations.
IndiGo is already wet-leasing Boeing 787-9s through an agreement with Scandinavian low-fare carrier Norse Atlantic.

“Conversion of [the previous memorandum] into a firm order…is a testament to our confidence in the future of Indian aviation and our strategic partnership with Airbus,” says IndiGo chief Pieter Elbers.
“These aircraft, as they join our fleet in the years to come, will play a pivotal role in enabling IndiGo expand its reach, connect India with more destinations across the globe, and offer our customers new international travel opportunities.”
All A350s are powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines.
