ENDEVCO UK HAS developed a differential piezoelectric accelerometer which is capable of measuring vibration in jet engines at temperatures of up to 650¡C. This capability means that the device is suitable for location in the high-temperature turbine section of the engine, says the Hertfordshire, UK-based company.

The 6240C transducer requires no external power, and uses natural crystal tourmaline to allow higher operating temperatures. Accelerometers, which use ceramic ferroelectric crystals can typically only operate at temperatures of up to 480¡C, Endevco claims.
