A new generation of powerful mobile starter units is being displayed by Global Power Logistics (Hall 2B, Stand G20).
The compact and highly mobile GPL 9000 series are the first units to operate with an independent power source meaning it can be used at any time in any terrain. This makes them particularly attractive to aircraft with a go-anywhere capability, especially helicopters.
"Previously an aircraft would have to wait for assistance if it needed to be re-powered, which isn't ideal in remote locations," says Global Power marketing director Brad Mitchell.
"The GPL units can be carried on an aircraft easily and produce multiple start-up procedures that can power the engines in as little as 30sec, depending on the aircraft's turbines."

Customers for the GPL 9000 include the German border patrol and the Italian air force, which uses the units at its flight test centre in Rome. The units are also well-suited to business and commuter jets.
The units meet and exceed all requirements for 28v systems and only need to be re-charged after around four uses. Depending on the aircraft, recharging can take anything from 75 minutes to 12 hours.
"This is a reliable and highly portable system and there is a real demand for it in the industry," said Mitchell. "All data required for operating procedures is readily available making GPL 9000 extremely easy to use."
