Ball Aerospace of Boulder, Colorado, has won a $200 million NASA contract to build the Laser Altimetry Mission spacecraft set for launch in July 2001. The craft will monitor changes to the Earth's polar ice caps. Spectrum Astro of Arizona, and the University of California have been picked to fly the High Energy Solar Spectroscopic Imager as the next primary mission on NASA's Small Explorer series of science craft. The $12 million instrument will be launched in July 2000.
