The Air Transport Association of America expects a 1.5% increase in summer travel aboard US carriers over 2010 levels in spite of near-record fuel prices. An extra 34,000 passengers a day from June through August is cause for cheer, but a delicate economy and expensive fuel will still leave traffic well below the 2007 pre-recession peak, while a forecast average domestic fare this summer of $316.27 is only $1.81 above the level in 2000.
