An executive reshuffling reveals more about the depth of Embraer's growing interest in a next-generation commercial airliner.

Ernest Edwards has replaced Luis Carlos Affonso as vice-president of the executive jet division. Affonso, meanwhile, has been appointed to head a new commercial aircraft programme, Edwards said.

Asked to elaborate on the identity of Affonso's new portfolio, Edwards replied: "Unfortunately, Luis did not brief me before he left."

For several months, Embraer has been waiting for Boeing to announce its strategy to extend or replace the 737 before making its own decision on a new narrowbody.
