Banyan Air Service has completed beta testing of the Thrane and Thrane Aviator 200 SwiftBroadband System with wi-fi capability on board a customer's Citation Jet. "Utilizing AVIATOR 200 connectivity, wi-fi-enabled PDA devices including Blackberry, iPhone and iPad offer a multitude of applications, ranging from weather updates for the pilot to recreational use by passengers in the cabin," says Brian Wilson, Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport-based Banyan's director of avionics. "A simple application allows operators to use their own iPhones and iPads." Banyan is installing the system at an introductory price of $75,000.00 with the data access temporarily limited to local area network connections.
