SHORTS AND AlliedSignal Engines have teamed to offer a so-called Integrated Powerplant System, based on AlliedSignal's new TFE731 family of turbofan engines.
Bombardier subsidiary Shorts will supply nose cowls, fan-cowl doors and engine-build units, pipework, ducting and electrical harnesses for the nacelle of the new powerplant. The Belfast, UK-based subsidiary will also be responsible for the integration of the engine and nacelle.
Based on the number of TFE731 firm orders booked to date, the work will initially be worth some $4.5 million, claims Northern Ireland-based Shorts. The TFE731-40, rated at 19kN (4,250lb) thrust, will power the Israel Aircraft Industries Astra SP-X and Dassault Falcon 50EX business jets.
