An array of telescopes able to move along a railway-like beam at least 30m (100ft) long is being studied by a NASA-led team for the proposed Space Infrared Interferometric Telescope (Spirit). Team member Boeing is exploring in-space assembly of the telescope, which would operate in far-infrared and sub-millimetre wavelengths with 100 times higher resolution than NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope.
