The US Air Force will not fund the X-33 reusable launch vehicle and X-37 reusable spaceplane technology demonstrators, after deciding they do not meet its future space access needs. NASA halted work on the X-33 earlier this year after spending $912 million in addition to the $356 million spent by Lockheed Martin and its suppliers. The US space agency is continuing to fund the X-37, but is in talks with Boeing over the future of the programme.
