Ireland's police force, the Garda Síochána, has been given the green light by the Irish cabinet for the I£4.3 million ($4.8 million) purchase of a Pratt & Whitney Canada-powered Eurocopter EC135. The aircraft, which joins a Eurocopter AS355 Squirrel and a Britten-Norman Defender 4000 in patrol operations, will be operated by a private company.
