Airbus Industrie has appointed Jurgen Thomas, the former executive vice-president of preliminary design and technology at Daimler-Benz Aerospace Airbus, to the post of senior vice-president of its new Large Aircraft division. Thomas has worked in the aerospace industry since 1962, moving via VFW to Airbus activities, where he started as chief engineer on the A310 programme in 1976. Most recently, he was European programme director for the transatlantic very-large-commercial- transport study, which involved Airbus partners and US manufacturer Boeing. In his new post, he is responsible for all development of Airbus' new large aircraft.
