The US Department of Transportation has provided $16 million in aid to general aviation airports in Louisiana and Texas that were damaged in hurricanes Katrina and Rita, with promise of more to come, citing their importance to the energy sector. The DoT plans to ask Congress to ask for permission to use Airport Improvement Programme funds to cover repairs.
