Local businesses and hotels are going to benefit greatly from Farnborough - by around £16 million, according to figures from the Society of British Aerospace (SBAC), organiser of the show.

The South East Tourist Board predicts visitors will spend £6.6 million in hotels within a 40km radius of the airfield during the show.

Among others benefiting from the airshow are contractors, who have generated some £4.5 milllion. Contractors started work on the 66 acre (26Ha) site in April and will be working until November, with an estimated 4, 000 employees in total.

With 300,000 visitors expected at the show, local businesses such as garages and shops should also benefit as providers of essential commodities such as petrol and ice-cream.
