JAPAN SATELLITE Systems has ordered a fourth JCSAT from Hughes. The contract brings to 58 the number of HS-601s ordered. The JCSATs 1 and 2 were HS-393 models. The launch of the JCSAT 4 will take place in 1997.
Indonesia's PT Telkom will order Palapa B5 and B6 satellites to replace its operational Hughes-built B2R and B4 models, which will be retired in 1998 and 2003.
In January, the country's other communications satellite operator, PT Satelindo, launched its first communications satellite, the Palapa C1 (a Hughes HS-601), complementing the Telkom's B2P which is over subscribed.
