Lockheed Martin Fairchild Systems has won a $4.5 million US Air Force contract to update the steerable television (STV) targeting sensor on the Boeing B-52. The original AVQ-22 STV turret will be upgraded with a high-definition, solid-state, imaging sensor. The initial 22- month contract is to develop a replacement STV, using "micro-channel-plate" image- intensifier technology developed for the US Army's Advanced Helicopter Pilotage sensor programme.
