BRITISH AIRWAYS IS TO TAKE delivery of the first growth-version of the GE90 engine for use on its Boeing 777 B-market twinjet in December 1996. Certification is scheduled for May 1996. The growth version will produce 410kN (92,000lb) of thrust, although it is understood British Airways will operate the engine at 400kN. The first flight of the GE90 on board a 777 A-market aircraft destined for British Airways took place on 2 February (Flight International, 8-14 February). The engine was certificated at 380kN.
