BOEING IS CARRYING out aerodynamic testing of its proposed 747-500X/600X derivatives at the UK Defence Research Agency's low-speed windtunnel at Farnborough. The tests are primarily aimed at evaluating the performance of the new, larger wing design developed for the 747 growth models. More than 1,000h of wind/tunnel tests have already been completed at sites in Europe and the USA, according to Seattle-based Boeing.
